Kos' most beautiful beaches

Kos is known as the island with the most beautiful beaches in the Dodecanese. Unfortunately, some of them are overcrowded in summer, but there are still some lovely treasures to be found.

Here’s a round-up of our favorite beaches on the island of Kos.

Kefalos Bay beaches: Camel, Sunny Beach, Paradise, Banana, Magic

You’ll find a series of pretty beaches to the south-west of the island, in Kefalos Bay. There’s a ten-kilometer-long strip of blond sand  , bordered by a transparent sea. The further east you go, the less crowded it becomes.

Paradise Beach is the best known and reputedly the most beautiful beach in Kefalos Bay. It is one of the most beautiful beaches on Kos. There are many water sports on offer. In July and August, however, it gets very crowded, which spoils the fun a little.

Exotic Beach is a little quieter.

Camel Beach is also very beautiful.

Sunny Beach, part wild and part developed, is very pleasant when it’s not too crowded. The water is so transparent that you can see the fish with the naked eye as you swim. Directly above is the Cavo Greco restaurant, overlooking the beach and offering stunning sea views.

Agios Stefanos, one of Kos’s most beautiful beaches

In the south-west of the island, at the end of Kefalos Bay, just after Camel and Sunny Beach, Agios Stefanos beach is certainly one of the most beautiful beaches on Kos. It’s one of our favorites, anyway.

This was the site of the formerClub Med (now the Ikos Aria, one of Kos’s finest hotels).

Just off Agios Stefanos beach is a small islet, Kastri, with a charming blue-and-white chapel. You can swim there on days when there’s no wind.

On the seafront, you can also admire the columns of a 5th-century early Christian basilica, and if you look closely, you can still see mosaics on the floor.

In short, a very pretty and pleasant beach.

The beaches of Kos – town

There are beaches close to the town of Kos. They’re not necessarily the most beautiful beaches on Kos, but they’re not unpleasant either.

They have the advantage of being within walking distance of the port.

These beaches are lined with bars and restaurants. They are very popular in summer.

Agios Theologos beach

Not to be missed during a stay in Kos, this is certainly the most beautiful beach on the island. Located on the southern tip of the island, Agios Theologos is a little-visited wilderness. Ideal for escaping the crowds.

Limestone rocks, lunar pebbles, a beach far removed from the world. What’s more, there’s even a tavern to enjoy the majestic sunset!

Generally speaking, the southern tip of Kos offers wild landscapes, unspoilt beaches and small coves.

6 kilometers from Kos town, a dirt road leads to Therma. Take care when driving down the road to the beach.

Here, at the end of the beach, there’s a natural hot spring that flows into the sea. A small pool allows you to splash around… which is a pleasant experience…. when it’s not too crowded. These hot waters are reputed to have numerous benefits, particularly for joints.

Mastihari beach

On the west coast of Kos, Masthari is a pleasant sandy beach with a pretty little fishing port. It’s been converted, but still retains a certain authenticity. Good fish taverns.

Kardamena beach

Kardamena is a small seaside resort with excursion boats to the island of Nysiros. The many tavernas lining the beach are not very popular with Greeks. Here we’ll be watching Manchester United rather than Olympiakos, and the beer will be flowing much more than the ouzo.

Kardamena is a beautiful beach, but it’s surrounded on both sides by hotel complexes.
