The beaches of Schinias are located in the continuation of Nea Makri and Marathon going north. More remote, they are also less frequented. Indeed, the more remote access allows to preserve a relative quietness.
Beaches of Schinias: preserved area
Schinias is located in a natural area Natura 2000. It includes various ecosystems: a wetland, a pine forest and a seafront. This natural and preserved environment does not lack charm.
Benefiting from this protected site, many birds fly over the area. In addition, the crystal clear waters of the sea and the view of the bay of Pantaleon and further on the mountains of the island of Evia and Pendeli are absolutely beautiful. And thus make it one of my favorite places.
The fine sandy beach extends for more than 5 km. Nothing to do with the private beaches of Vouliagmeni surrounded by fences. Here you can put your towels on the sand wherever you want!
A family-friendly beach
As for swimming, the beach is very suitable for families:
- Fine sand for sandcastles
- Gentle slope to enter the water
- No dangerous roads nearby
- Few waves
- Be careful thoughsome small jellyfish can sometimes annoy bathers, but it is rare
As far as I’m concerned, the part I prefer is the one lined with pine trees. First, because the juxtaposition of the green of the trees, the white of the sand and the blue of the sea evokes a raw and aesthetically perfect nature. Secondly, because the shade of the trees brings a welcome coolness under the scorching temperatures. Finally, because it is easy to alternate between swimming in the sea and walking along the pine forest paths in the afternoon.
Where to eat on the beaches of Schinias
The “feet in the water” taverns were discontinued in early 2018. The beach of Schinias is now wild. You should therefore think about bringing drinks and a picnic.
Nevertheless, for meat lovers, three taverns (Η Καλυ Καρδια, Ο Παράδεισος, Christos) line Leoforos Schinias at numbers 210, 219 and 221. You can enjoy lamb, pork or beef cut before your eyes and cooked on giant barbecues.
Otherwise, outside the protected wooded area, II recommend these very nice clubs in Schinias because they offer not only a small restaurant and bar service, but also water sports activities and a playground for children. They are located next to each other, just before entering the pine forest (see map in practical information).
- Club Moraitis Beach Moraitis Beach: a water sports center that offers windsurfing, water skiing, wakeboarding, wakesurfing, sea kayaks, catamaran and snorkeling. And for the more athletic, triathlon training. For those who prefer to relax, deckchairs and umbrellas in a pleasant and relaxed setting. - Salty Wave another water sports club, located a few steps from Moraitis. The staff is nice. Offers some snacks for lunch (toasts, salads).
