The exhibition at the Athens Olympic Museum
The Olympic Museum’s permanent exhibition is divided into two sections:
So, the first part is devoted to the history of the Olympic Games: the Olympic Games in Antiquity, the Olympic Games in Ancient Olympia, the renaissance of the Olympic Games, Athens 1896, the period 1900-2002, Athens 2014 and the period 2006 to the present.
The second part focuses on the modern Olympic movement and its heroes.
Explanations are in Greek and English.
Allow around 2 hours to visit this museum.
To complete the Athens Olympic Museum
You’ll also find the museum store with items inspired by the exhibition, and a modernly decorated café-restaurant “1896” with a breathtaking view of the Athens Olympic Sports Center.
Of course, we also recommend a visit to the Panathenaic stadium.
What we liked
The Museum is modern and uses new technologies to present its exhibits. This museum is great for families. Even adults and teenagers are easily taken in. You’ll marvel at all the innovative technologies and learn in a fun, creative way at the same time.
Within the Golden Hall, we also recommend a visit to Xplore, a large educational space built with families in mind.
