In Greece, the birthplace of the marathon, not 1 but 2 half-marathons are held every year in Athens. The first is held in the city center of the Greek capital. The other takes place at Palio Faliro on the seafront. Two great opportunities to visit Athens for a sporting weekend! Here are the dates to remember:
- Sunday, March 9, 2025: Athens Half Marathon (in central Athens)
- Sunday, April 27, 2025: Poseidon half-marathon (on the Faliro seafront, near Piraeus)
Athens Half Marathon: Sunday, March 9, 2025
21,1km Athens Race on March 9, 2025 takes place in downtown Athens. The course starts and finishes in Syntagma Square, in front of the Greek Parliament building. The start is usually at 9 a.m.
Highlights include the Greek Parliament, the monument to the Unknown Soldier, the Academy of Athens, the University, the National Library, the National Museum of Archaeology, the statue of Kolokotronis… and many other monuments and buildings that are part of the city’s history and charm.
To take part in this “semi-Olympic” event😉, registration is open until February 20.
A unique celebration in the center of Athens! An exceptional springtime experience in the heart of the city, combining sport, culture and entertainment. A race that gives us the opportunity to enjoy the charm of the city while reinforcing the values of solidarity and camaraderie. Three races are organized:
- The 21,1km race starts on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at 8:30 am. Start and finish on Amalias Avenue, in front of the tomb of the unknown soldier guarded by the famous evzones. Price: €25, €45 with T-shirt. The course – More info

Poseidon half marathon: April 27, 2025
A half-marathon in Athens that’s great fun to run: the Poseidon, 21 km on an asphalt road by the sea, but consisting of 2 loops.
This year’s departure is on Sunday April 27, 2025, from Faliro Bay, opposite the Stavros Niarchos Centre.
Once again this year, several races of different distances are on offer to satisfy all runners:
