Karamanlidika Tou Fany is one of our favorite taverns. It is located at the corner of Socratous and Evripidou streets. Located just a few steps from the central market of Athens!
It is an ideal stop if you are visiting this lively and very authentic area.

Surprise when entering the building

From the outside, the neoclassical building that houses the Karamanlidika Tou Fany tavern has a certain charm with its large checkered windows.

Then it’s a nice surprise when entering the tavern. Indeed, in the same place, the kitchens, the delicatessen and the restaurant tables cohabit. In addition, the braids of sausage, pepper and garlic come to color the rustic decor and the sobriety of the place.

At the back, the room opens onto a tiny, long courtyard, where a dozen tables have been set up. We always settle down there!

At Karamanlidika Tou Fany, the welcome is warm and the background music sounds real. It is not a simple artifice to seduce the tourist in search of Greek folklore, but a real atmosphere intended for a local and faithful clientele. Because here, many regulars are at the table.

A second address in Monastiraki

Thanks to its success, Karamanlidika tou Fany has opened a second address. It is located at 119 Ermou Street, close to the flea market of Monastiraki. We find here the delicatessen with its rare charcuterie and cheeses.

But there are also baked dishes: excellent moussaka, filled breads… and delicious desserts.

A cuisine from Cappadocia

We like the Karamanlidika restaurant very much because it offers different dishes from those usually served in taverns. They reflect the diversity of Greek gastronomy. The dishes are from Cappadocia (central Turkey) and strongly influenced by the flavors of Asia Minor (spices, herbs).

Taste the specialties of the house: pastourma (dried meat coated with paprika, cumin, chili and garlic), kavourma (boiled and fried meat to be preserved) or soutzoukis (sausages).

The prices are very reasonable: from 6 euros to 10 euros for the dishes and starters. It is necessary to count between approximately 12€/person.

Finally, a very practical tip: if you liked the dishes you tasted, especially the charcuterie and cheese boards, you can buy your favorites in the charcuterie-cheese shop. With the option of vacuum packing. Ideal if you want to slip a gastronomic souvenir in your luggage 😉
