Couleur Locale is a high bar located just a few steps from Monastiraki Square. It offers one of the most beautiful views of the Acropolis and the Parthenon.
In the Monastiraki area there are several rooftops where you can enjoy a drink while admiring the view. This one, with its hidden side, its non-touristy clientele and its nice and relaxed atmosphere, is one of our favorites!
Local Color: a hidden rooftop with a view of the Acropolis
First of all, when you are in Monastiraki Square, take Ermou Street in the direction of Thissio / Keramikos. Then turn left on Normanou Street. Stop at number 3: the entrance is not very inviting and does not allow you to guess what is waiting for you at the top. Sneak into the arcade, cross the bar on the first floor and take the elevator to the 3rd floor (be careful, don’t stop at the second floor where it says “view bar”).
Here : surprise ! You arrive on a beautiful and large terrace, decorated with trees in pots and tables in earthenware and wood. And above all, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Acropolis and the Parthenon. Magical!
A completely different rooftop by day and night
Couleur Locale is a pleasant bar at any time of the day or night. First of all, in the morning, the atmosphere is calm and cosy. The place is perfect to have a breakfast or a coffee before starting a day in Athens (attention: opening at 10 am only).
Then, at lunchtime, Couleur Locale offers salads, pizzas, snacks and burgers. And with a Greek touch : Cretan salad (dakos), mastelo sticks (cheese from the island of Chios), mastic ice cream.
Then, at the end of the afternoon, you can stop for a refreshing break. So, to quench your thirst, there’s nothing like homemade lemonade with mastic water and basil.
Finally, in the evening, the place is very lively, so much so that it is sometimes difficult to find a seat. Tasty cocktails, young and trendy clientele, jazz, soul and rock’n’roll music.
In conclusion, whatever the time of day, the view is magnificent and worth a detour. Definitely one of our favorite places in Athens!
