Patmos is a Greek island in the Dodecanese region with a wide variety of beautiful beaches. It’s easy to move from beaches with umbrellas and beach bars to wild, unspoilt coves. Some beaches are more easily accessible than others. In short, there’s something for everyone! Set course for Patmos’ most beautiful beaches!
Here’s a round-up of the 10 most beautiful beaches on Patmos.
1 – Psili Amos, the star beach on Patmos
Of all the beaches on Patmos, Psili Amos is clearly the most beautiful. It’s the queen of the island’s beaches.
Psili Amos has to be earned, as you first have to drive to Diakofti and from there take a rocky, sun-drenched path. With children, it took us 20 minutes to walk to the beach from Diakofti. This “end of the world” aspect adds to its charm, and the trail also offers magnificent sea views.
On site, fine sand and turquoise waters. There’s a small tavern and trees to shelter from the sun. Well worth the detour!
Naturism is permitted at Psili Amos.
Caution: in summer, arrive early as holidaymakers flock in the middle of the day, which spoils the fun a little.
2 – Geranos beach
Located on the northeast side of the island, Geranos is an undeveloped beach of sand and pebbles. But since it’s tree-lined, there’s no need for an umbrella, so you can enjoy the natural shade. The water is clear and transparent. There’s a small island opposite, with a white chapel. This is easily accessible by swimming.
This is one of our favorite Patmos beaches.
3 – Kambos, the perfect beach for young children
Kambos is one of Patmos’ most popular beaches. And for good reason: it’s pretty and easily accessible. The beach is equipped with parasols and deckchairs. It is lined with tavernas and beach bars.
The atmosphere is more family-oriented: safe bathing conditions, activities, gently sloping sea, which is practical with small children. Kambos is also generally well protected from the wind.
It’s a pleasant beach, but unfortunately it’s very crowded at certain times of the day in July and August.
4 – Lambi and its multicolored pebbles
Lambi is a pebble beach, of no particular interest apart from its multicolored pebbles polished by the sea, which children enjoy picking up. There’s a traditional tavern and a beach bar.
On windy days, head for one of Patmos’ other beaches, as Lambi is unprotected.
5 – Vagia, an unspoilt bay
Vagia is a pretty pebble cove bordered by bamboo on one side and turquoise waters on the other. Recommended for snorkeling enthusiasts, the waters are clear and there are plenty of fish to be seen. There are no umbrellas or deckchairs, but a couple of trees provide shelter from the sun.
Please note: no tavernas or snack bars on the beach or nearby. So remember to bring plenty of water and food.
This pretty beach has the added advantage of being generally protected from the wind.
6 – Meloi
Meloi is one of the Patmos beaches we find the most pleasant. This narrow strip of sand is lined with trees all along its length. The water is translucent and the atmosphere calm. It’s undeveloped, but there’s a fish tavern on the other side of the road.
7 – Grikos Bay
Grikos Bay is a quieter resort than Skala. A little more chic too. This is where the luxurious AKTIS SUITE & SPA hotel is located.
There’s a beach shaded by tamarisk trees, with umbrellas and deckchairs belonging to the hotel.
Grikos is a pleasant place to stop for a bite to eat right on the water. The tavern is good… but prices are a little higher than in other taverns on the island.
8 – Petra Beach
Petra Beach is located in the bay of Grikos. It’s a pebble beach at the foot of the large rock of Kalikatsos. There’s little shade unless you rent a parasol and deckchairs (summer 2023: €18 for two deckchairs + parasol). There are also various water sports (kayaking, windsurfing).
9 – Lefkes beach, for sunset views
Lefkes is a green, agricultural valley. Its beach is wild and usually windy. There’s also a lot of seaweed and it’s certainly not the most beautiful beach on Patmos. But we’re pointing it out because we like to go there at the end of the day to admire the sunset and dine in style in the “cantina” set up on the beach. The food is extremely simple (meat skewers, Greek salad, small fish fry and fried calamari) but it’s good. Authentic, friendly atmosphere.
10 – Agriolivado beach
And last but not least, Agriolivado Beach, also known as Agriolivadi. A beautiful, shaded sandy beach with crystal-clear waters, ideal for swimming. It is partly equipped with deckchairs and parasols, and water sports are available. The beach also has a kiosk and beach bar nearby. You can also take a seat in the undeveloped area, in the shade of the tamarisk trees. A quiet beach for the whole family.
