In winter, you can go skiing in Kalavrita. The village is the starting point for the resort at the top of Mount Chelmos, around 15 km from the village.
A small, family-friendly ski resort
Kalavrita is one of the closest ski resorts to Athens, at an altitude of 1700 meters (Google Maps). It takes two and a half hours by car to get there (just like skiing on Mount Parnassus). However, the Kalavrita station is quite different.
This is a very small family ski resort, but it has to be said, it’s pretty run-down. The lifts are not the latest generation (pickaxes, chairlifts without detachments). So take your time!
On the other hand, the trails (13 in all) – green, blue, red and even two black – are a little more technical than at Parnassos. A few bumps and some nice off-pistes in the forest. The view from the top of the estate is fantastic. In fact, you can even see the sea from the Gulf of Corinth.
The ski season in Greece is very short, and snow conditions are not always optimal. Before embarking on your skiing adventure in Kalavrita, it’s best to check the following conditions weather conditions and snow conditions.
Why do we love skiing in Kalavrita?
- The large chalet at the foot of the slopes.
- But also the middle one, where you can soak up the sun in a deckchair (food and drink available).
- The quality of the ski slopes.
- The snow park for surfers.
- The beginners‘ area (well-protected) with an easy-to-take up slope and a gentle slope.
