Serifos is a little-known island, but well worth a visit. We love this island and tell you why in this article. But in the meantime, here’s some practical information to help you make the most of your stay in Serifos.
How to get to Serifos
The island of Serifos is served by direct connections from the port of Piraeus. The journey takes 4h30 by ferry or 2h30 by speedboat. For more information on the port of Piraeus (how to get there, practical information, map), see our article on Athens ports.
There are also links between Serifos and other Cycladic islands: neighboring Sifnos, of course, but also Milos, Kythnos, Paros, Syros, Folegandros and Santorini.
To buy your ferry or speedboat tickets to Serifos, we recommend you visit the Ferry Hopper website, where you can book your crossing and pay online. It’s easy to use, and allows you to compare rates at a glance. And above all, this site offers the lowest online ticket prices on the market (no commissions or additional fees).
You can also visit Serifos and the surrounding area by booking a week’s sailing cruise with clickandboat. An unforgettable vacation!
Getting around Serifos
Buses run between Livadi and Chora. They run about once an hour. Unfortunately, few buses serve the other villages on the island.
The best way to discover Serifos and access the small beaches is by car. Alternatively, you can take a cab (although there aren’t many on the island).
Where to stay ?
If we had to recommend just one hotel on the island of Serifos, it would be without hesitation Coco-Mat Eco Residences Hotel . Some even say that this hotel alone would justify a stay in Serifos. The Coco-Mat hotel is located on the beautiful, unspoilt beach of Vagia and consists of renovated miners’ residences. Expensive… but superb!
There are also a number of hotels and tourist residences in the port of Livadi. You’ll find a vast choice on the Booking site (hotels, apartments, houses…). For example, the Alisachni residence is simple but well located and offers good value for money (tested and approved by us). Or the Hotel Alexandros Vassilia, offering family rooms and apartments at all price levels.
Our favourite places to eat and drink in Serifos
On a purely subjective basis, here are our favourite places to eat or drink in Serifos:
- Stou Stratou in Chora: located in Chora’s pretty square, this bar-restaurant poetically serves snacks (breakfast, tarts, cheeses). And good cocktails in the evening, including a wide choice of ouzo-based cocktails. Ideal for a taste of Greek flavours!
- Restaurant Aloni in Chora: one of the best restaurants in Serifos. It offers local dishes… and what’s more, you can eat while enjoying an absolutely exceptional view.
- Restaurant Kalis in Livadi: located on the seafront, this restaurant offers delicious fish and seafood at reasonable prices (unless you fall for its specialty: lobster pasta!). Our favorite restaurant on Livadi harbor.
