Nolan is a restaurant, small in size but big in its fusion cuisine which I found particularly creative and delicate. Flavors from Japan are combined with Mediterranean recipes and Greek ingredients. A particularly successful mix!
Nolan, a contemporary restaurant in the Syntagma district
Nolan is located in the heart of Athens, two minutes walk from Syntagma Square. The atmosphere is intimate, less than a dozen tables. It is therefore essential to make a reservation. The name of the restaurant shines in bright letters at the back of the room. I was charmed by the modern and refined décor: white or glass walls, grey mosaics, black chairs and grey tables.
The place is completely non-smoking, which is not so common in the center of Athens.
Before starting our dinner, we succumbed to the charm of the house cocktails. They are remarkably well executed.
Nolan: a subtle blend of Greek cuisine and Asian flavors
The concept of the place is to choose several dishes and share them in the center of the table so that each guest tastes everything. And the menu is simple and reduced: about fifteen dishes are proposed. The staff helped us make our choice, we were guided and did not regret it. I advise you to try at least one dish from each category: vegetables, meat and fish. Note: the portions are rather small.
At Nolan’s, many cultures and techniques come together on the same plate. A mixture both original and harmonious that reminded me of my travels in Asia. The cuisine is refined and sophisticated. In each dish, even the simplest at first sight, comes a taste from elsewhere. Delicate exotic flavors explode in the mouth.
My favorite: the shrimps in rice paper that I found fragrant, slightly spicy, a dish that is both tender and crispy, subtly spiced. A delight! I also recommend the steamed pork cheek rolls. They are melting.
The service is professional and friendly.
Nolan has become one of the most fashionable restaurants in Athens. I was pleasantly surprised because the whole thing is orchestrated with simplicity and without any snobbery.
