The sun is generally already present without being overwhelming, nature wakes up and offers flowery and multicolored landscapes that contrast with the blue of the sky and the sea, the days are getting longer… So, take advantage of this period to travel to Greece in spring, during the Easter vacations with your family or even better, in May. 1. We take advantage of it to take the air and to walk in town
The days are getting longer, the orange trees on the sidewalks are in bloom and scent the streets, the sun is present … Athens and Thessaloniki are beautiful destinations from March/April. Indeed, it is the ideal time to discover the city, but also some of the archaeological sites still quiet.
- Visiting the Acropolis in spring is ideal because the high tourist season has not yet begun, and you can climb the Rock in the middle of the afternoon without suffering from the heat.
- Take advantage of the good weather to sit on the terrace of a café in the street or even better, take the height and tour the rooftops: The best terraces and rooftops in Athens.
- Stroll through the streets of Athens on foot or by bike, with your hair blowing in the wind (or not)
- The conditions are ideal. Go on a trip and visit archaeological sites such as Cape Sounion, Delphi, Epidaurus, Mycenae or Olympia.
The more adventurous can venture to bathe in the sea from one of the beaches easily accessible from Athens, another alternative for the more chilly: the lake of Vouliagmeni which has a constant temperature of 22-23 degrees.
2. It’s springtime! We reconnect with nature
Everything is budding, trees and meadows are blooming, temperatures are mild without being scorching, so it’s the perfect season to enjoy the exceptional Greek nature as it is still wild!

3. There are not yet too many tourists in Greece in spring.
And yes, we are still out of season, and you will not have the hordes of tourists on the Acropolis or the cruises breaking through the islands! You may even be surprised to find few stores open on the islands before mid-April. Indeed, the islands usually come alive from April onwards (at the time of the Orthodox Easter).
If you dream of the star islands of Greece, spring is perfect to visit the Cyclades islands like Mykonos or Santorini for example. Obviously, if you can, it is better to choose periods outside of school vacations.
4. It is the period of the Orthodox Easter
Did you know that Orthodox Easter is slightly different from Catholic Easter? The Easter celebrations in Greece last for the whole of Holy Week from April 9 to 17, 2023.
