How do I get to Piraeus?

Have you just arrived in Athens and need to go to Piraeus to catch your ferry? This situation can be stressful… But don’t panic! The city of Athens offers a wide range of means of means of transport . Whether you’re departing from Athens airport or the city center, Piraeus is within easy reach.

Getting to Piraeus from Athens airport

If your connection in Piraeus is immediate after your flight has landed, several means of transport are available. These vary according to the time you have available and your budget. Allow at least 2 hours between the arrival of your plane and the departure of your ferry.

  • Bus : the X96 is taken from the arrivals level at the airport. The terminus is located on platform E1 in Piraeus. Consult the X96 bus timetable .
  • Train : Π3Β, line Αεροδρόμιο – Πειραιάς (Airport-Piraeus). Information and timetables on

  • Metro : Line 3 (blue) to Piraeus (less than 1 hour). Timetable Metro line 3.

Getting to Piraeus from central Athens

Obviously, this will take less time than from the airport. Allow around 20 minutes by metro and between 30 and 45 minutes by cab (depending on traffic conditions).

  • Bus: you can get from Syntagma Square to Piraeus by bus. Take the classic line number 40 or the express X80.
  • Metro : from Monastiraki, line 1 (green) or line 3 (blue) towards Piraeus. Or from Syntagma, line 3 (blue) towards Piraeus. Allow plenty of time for the walk from the metro exit to the boarding platform.
  • Cab : you can take a yellow cab on the street. To be sure of finding a cab at any time of day, head for Syntagma. Cabs are still waiting. Alternatively, to avoid last-minute stress, book a cab in advance on Welcome PickUps. The big advantage of a cab is that it takes you directly to your boarding quay, at the foot of the boat. No stress about finding your way around Piraeus.

Find your ferry in Piraeus

First of all, before you leave, find your dock on your boat ticket (they are numbered E1 to E12). If you’re travelling to Piraeus by bus, your stop will vary according to the bus, and your cab will drop you off directly on the departure platform. Once you’ve found your dock, the surest way to get on the right boat is to refer to its name on your ticket.

And if you have a few hours or even a day to visit Athens you can leave your bags and suitcases in one of the many luggage lockers and wander around the center of Athens unhindered.
