Traveling with your family and visiting Athens with teenagers, a city full of tourists, is not always easy… So to help you, we interviewed young people living in Athens. And they told us what they liked about the Greek capital. How visit Atnens with teenagers, we tell you everything!

1. We forget the archaeological sites…

So first of all, you should know that none of them told us about archaeological sites or museums. So a priori there is little interest in old stones, even if they tell us that they like the confrontation of the old and the new.

They like to walk in lively neighborhoods. Because they allow them to discover both the history through the architecture of the city and especially the life of Athens (restaurants, stores, cafes, bars …).

2. We opt for fun tours that appeal to the whole family

Contrary to popular belief, they often prove to be passionate about small group tours. The guides even tell us that teens often ask many more questions than their parents!!!

For the teenagers who are not interested in old stones, we have the ideal solution: a Segway tour of Athens. The best way to discover the city (and even visit the Acropolis) in a fun way. They love it. Why not try a segway tour of Athens by night?

Another option: a tour of Athens by electric bike. The bike ride along the Athenian riviera will please your teenagers.

City game Sherlock Holmes on smartphone: it is also generally very popular with teenagers. Perfect for discovering Athens in a different way (and feeding their Instagram accounts).

3. Neighborhoods that appeal to teens

Here are the neighborhoods recommended by the young people interviewed.

Monastiraki-Plaka

This central district, easily accessible by metro, although touristy, is the center of a very lively life day and night. What teens especially like:

  • Bars with rooftop terraces (rooftops)
  • The street-food (kebabs, falafels, salads…) and the small restaurants on the stairs of Plaka. A good souvlaki and your teenager will be delighted!
  • The flea market on Avissinias square and in the surrounding streets
  • Clothing stores

Psiri – Thissio

Less touristy, Psiri and Thisio alternate the authenticity of old craftsmen’s quarters with the new life given by a movement of artists in the air of time. Your teens will appreciate it:

  • The boutiques of designers (shoes, hats, jewelry…)
  • The street art because many walls are decorated with impressive graphics or murals.
  • Bars and clubs on the Keramikos side.

Kolonaki

More chic, the district of Kolonaki also pleases our teenagers.

  • Design stores and in particular the numerous concept stores
  • The“alternative” stores (sic)
  • Trendy bars and clubs with live music
  • The proximity of Lycabettus Hill offering some greenery and a magnificent view of Athens

4. Visit Athens with teenagers : The beach of course!

And yes, because Athens is not only the city. It is also the nearby sea.

If you don’t have a car, the southern beaches (Glyfada, Neo Faliro) are accessible by streetcar. A little further, still in the South, the very “select” beaches of Vouliagmeni seem to please our teenagers. They are a place of bathing of course but also of night outings.

To the east, in a more natural format, the beaches of Schinias and Nea Makri are also popular. Because they have large areas and also sailing clubs.

5. Going out in Athens

But what our young people living in Athens seem to appreciate most is the nightlife offered by the Greek capital. The mild climate allows you to enjoy the terraces of cafés and restaurants.

The music scene is very lively with bars and clubs in the central areas. And the trendiest nightclubs, very popular, are located in the south, along the sea.

Finally, if you want to make your teenager very happy, we have THE perfect gift: the Dinner in the Sky experience. A dinner in the air. It’s absolutely magical and you’re sure to wow your kids.

Enjoy your visit!
