Little Kook is an amazing tea shop in the Psyri neighborhood, next to Monastiraki Square. “Alice in Wonderland” atmosphere, fairy tale decor, copious cakes and sweet pancakes with gourmet flavors. Enter, in the heart of Athens, a magical world that will delight lovers of sweet flavors.
Little Kook: an atypical setting
The decor of Little Kook is original and surprising. Indeed, from the outside you can see the tail of the huge dragon located on the roof, emerging on the facade at the level of the first floor. Inside, the atmosphere is charged and crazy. Baroque mirrors, candlesticks, stuffed owls, huge rhinoceros head on the floor, flowered chairs, multitude of kitsch objects. There are so many details that one does not know where to turn. The decoration changes throughout the year and, depending on the season, the waitresses are dressed in a red cape and a hat with a veil, an Alice in Wonderland style outfit, a fuchsia pink dress, etc.
To fully appreciate the decor, take the time to observe the different rooms and the nooks and crannies inside each room. This magical and delirious universe generally pleases children and enchants adults who wish to rediscover the universe of the fairy tales of their childhood.
A trip to the land of sugar
On the tasting side, get ready to gobble up a good dose of sugar! Little Kook’s big specialty: multi-tiered cakes with cream. There are many choices and it is not easy to decide: “Wolf, wolf I am here” desserts, “Princess with pink cheeks” or “Hot breath of the dragon“? The portions are hearty, so feel free to share. The sponge cake is rather light but the result leaves a very sweet sensation in the mouth. You can sprinkle it with coffee, tea or “dragon’s blood” (homemade cherry juice). For the more reasonable and/or those watching their figure, Little Kook Cake Shop also offers fresh fruit juice, Greek yogurt and fruit salad.
Beware, some days, especially during Christmas, the place is very busy and you have to queue up on the sidewalk.
Another drawback is that the bill quickly becomes expensive (more than 7€ for a piece of cake).
The little extra: the place is entirely non-smoking, which is appreciable if you come with children.
