Delphi is an ideal stop-off point for anyone visiting northern Greece, particularly the Meteora. It’s also a pleasant excursion for those who decide to take their time and visit the site from Athens in two or three days. from Athens in two or three days.
Here are just a few of the places we and our friends and family have visited in and around Delphi. Our selection of places to stay in Delphi!
Accommodation close to Delphi
We don’t necessarily recommend sleeping in Delphi itself. Indeed, the hotels here are often very touristy and lack charm. However, if you really want to sleep close to the site, here are two addresses that stand out from the crowd.
Delfi’s Cozy Maisonette: You’ll fall in love with this cozy 2-bedroom apartment with balcony. Charmingly decorated, it’s a warm place you won’t want to leave!
Komody: Beautifully renovated apartment hotel close to the Delphi archaeological site. Perfect for doing everything on foot!
Pitho: Not a hotel we’d recommend for its style, but for its proximity to the site (800m from the museum) and the warm welcome offered by its hosts. Good breakfast to get you up and running early for the site visit.
Hotel Varonos: Located right in the heart of Delphi and close to the archaeological site (only 10 mins walk), this simple hotel offers a varied and copious breakfast included in the price (when we were there, we were treated to real, dense Greek yoghurt!). Some bedrooms enjoy sea views.
Sleeping in Delphi’s mountain villages
Ampolis & Patriko: two small hotels in the historic center of Arachova, tested by friends. They are comfortable and very reasonably priced , and of course close to restaurants and stores.
Skamnos Boutique Hotel: the hotel is located on the plain above Arachova, just before the junction leading to the ski area. This small hotel is full of charm. It also boasts an indoor swimming pool and spa, which are very pleasant in winter. The family rooms are great because they have a mezzanine, preserving relative privacy.
Seaside accommodation, another way to sleep near Delphi
If you have a car, you can drive down to the Gulf of Corinth in just a few minutes. We don’t necessarily recommend the first village, Ittea, but rather Galaxidi, a pleasant little port. Beware, however, that hotels here are rather expensive.
Galaxa Mansion: a traditional house with some lovely rooms. Some with views of the village and the sea.
Nostos House: for those who want to treat themselves. The hotel is in a 19th-century house, with ceiling moldings and four-poster beds. All just 300m from the seafront.
Archontiko Art Hotel: a little more affordable than its predecessors, the hotel is set back slightly from the pedestrian zone, but still boasts an excellent view. An excellent breakfast!
Paradisos: Finally, this hotel is 8km from Galaxidi, but we really appreciated its proximity to the beach (10m!!!). In fact, it’s a real pleasure to take a morning dip without anyone on the beach. Prices are reasonable. We recommend that you request the rooms on the top floor, which have been refurbished and are quieter than those on the second floor.
