Folegandros is a particularly pleasant island. Harmonious and enchanting, it appeals to lovers of tranquillity, who find their bliss in the wild coves and hiking trails. Then you can enjoy the bustle of Chora, the capital, with its boutiques and small squares lined with cafés and tavernas. Where to stay? Where to eat? Shopping? We’d like to share with you some of the hotels, restaurants and stores that have charmed us on the island of Folegandros.
Where to eat? Our favorite restaurants on Folegandros island
The many tavernas in Chora’s squares offer the chance to sample the island’s specialties.
We recommend the following restaurants:
- To Spitiko A family-run establishment serving typical Folegandros recipes. And it is, in our opinion, here that the best is to be tasted. Matsata the island’s signature dish: homemade pasta, served with a tomato or lemon sauce, accompanied by your choice of minced meat, rooster, kid, rabbit, chicken, pork… or simply served plain!
- Eva’s garden our favorite restaurant in Folegandros. Greek cuisine revisited, refined and tasty, served in a fragrant garden.
- Melissa Our range includes ready-made meals and grilled meats. Special mention for the falafels and lamb mouse with zucchinis
- Blue Cuisine Mediterranean cuisine with a twist on traditional Greek tavernas
- and for meat lovers: Souvlaki Club offers hearty gyros and souvlaki, served on a plate or rolled in pita bread.
Shopping in Folegandros
There are plenty of stores in Chora selling quality items, far from the kitsch souvenirs that can sometimes be found in Greece. A slightly “bobo” atmosphere, of course… but it’s nice to be able to buy beautiful souvenirs that will prolong the taste of the trip.
Our favorites :
- Malama Boutique : beautiful selection of women’s clothing and handmade jewelry
- Always Summer Always Summer: a tiny boutique with pretty jewelry and a few dresses or tunics with a streamlined cut.
- Folegandros TShirts TShirts for men and women, but not only. You’ll also find cool, modern accessories. Ideal for typical Folegandros souvenirs without being too classic or tasteless.
Folegandros island: where to stay?
We advise you to stay in the capital, Chora, so you can walk around and go out easily in the evening (Chora is where the restaurants are concentrated). You’ll find several hotels, houses to rent and villas on the Booking website. To take advantage of all these services, we recommend apartments in Chora.
As the beaches are not necessarily very accessible, it may be advisable to choose a hotel with a swimming pool, especially if you have children.
We recommend the Hotel Polikandia, for example, which is conveniently located and has a swimming pool. It offers good value for money. The Aspalathras White Hotel is superb!
Or if you really want to treat yourself, why not opt for the Hotel Anemi? It is located near the port and boasts pure Cycladic architecture. There’s also a swimming pool.
