Milos is located in the Cyclades archipelago, south of Sifnos. The island of the famous Venus (Aphrodite) looks like paradise on earth and is one of our favorite islands. Because of its volcanic nature, Milos offers visitors bewitching and unusual landscapes in a variety of colors. The beauty of the rocks sculpted by nature and the brightly colored cliffs (red, orange, green, white, black) are irresistible. The island’ s exceptional coastline sets it apart from the other Cycladic islands. It’s simply unique. If you’re wondering what to do in Milos, here are our top 5 activities and excursions to make your vacation unforgettable.
1- Admire the Milos coastline from the sea
The volcanic landscapes of Milos offer a unique spectacle that can only be truly admired from the sea. To take full advantage of the island’s exceptional character, a trip out to sea is a must. It’s one of the island’s must-sees, and allows you to admire what is invisible from the island’s interior. Postcard shots and unforgettable memories guaranteed. In fact, we’ve dedicated an article to How to choose a boat trip to Milos?
A boat trip is also the only way to get to the sumptuous Kleftiko site: a former pirate hideout with majestic cliffs rising out of the sea and a translucent sea. A must-see in Milos!
We’ve also spotted this 4-hour excursion to Kleftiko. And this day trip on a schooner to discover the beaches of Milos. We haven’t tried them out, but they’ve got great reviews!
You can also choose to rent your own boat, by the day or for a few hours, with or without a license, with or without a skipper, depending on your level. To do so, visit the Click&Boat website (tested and approved by us).
2- Discover Sarakiniko with a local
Another site of outstanding interest is Sarakiniko, in the north of the island. A site of great beauty, with an almost lunar-like landscape, bordering the sea and featuring sparkling white rocks. Not to be missed!
Let yourself be seduced by the unique natural beauty of this island and explore the hidden beauties of Milos by car with a local: Sarakiniko, Papafragkas cave, the fishing villages of Klima and Mandrakia, Firopotamos beach…
3- Kayak the beaches of Milos
Among the many activities on Milos, relaxing on the island’s sublime beaches is a must. Its coastline is a pure marvel: numerous beaches with crystal-clear and deep-blue waters, rocks wonderfully sculpted by nature and intense colors. And there’s plenty of fine sand for those who prefer to laze on their towels in a heavenly setting!
But water sports enthusiasts won’t be outdone, either, with diving, windsurfing, kitesurfing and kayaking.
We’ve selected these activities for you to enjoy:
- A kayak excursion to Tsigrado to visit hidden caves and snorkel in the translucent waters around Tsigrado and Gerakas beach. Departure from Fyriplaka, excursion in English.
- Or take a guided kayak trip along the Milos coast to discover sea caves, with swimming and snorkeling in translucent waters. You can even experience a cliff jump! Departure from Adamas, excursion in English.

4- Visit authentic villages
We’ve fallen in love with Milos’ charming, brightly-colored fishing villages. These small fishing harbours are made up of small houses built into the cliffs and set up on the seafront. The first floor, usually dug directly into the rock, is used as a garage for boats. Discover the colorful village of Klima with its catacombs, as well as the villages of Firopotamos and Mandrakia.
This archaeological and cultural tour of Milos is sure to please! The program includes a visit to the traditional fishing village of Klima and Papafragas, a stroll through Sarakiniko, a visit to the ancient theater and the place where the Venus de Milo was found, and a stroll through the cobbled, bougainvillea-lined streets of Plaka… English guide.
5- Electric bikes on the island
Finally, another original way to discover Milos without getting (too) tired: electric bikes! A fun way to enjoy the great outdoors. We have selected these activities for you:
- A picturesque e-bike tour departing from Adamas: discover the island’s most picturesque sites, including the catacombs, the ancient Roman theater, the fishing village of Klima and, of course, Sarakiniko for a swim before returning home. Guided tour in English
- Tour the highlights of Milos by electric bike from Adamas: start with the catacombs before discovering the charming village of Plaka, then head for the beaches of Sarakiniko. And enjoy a swim stop. Tour in English.
- Finally, we spotted this electric bike tour at sunset. Take advantage of the cool evening to visit the Papafragas cave, the lunar landscape of Sarakiniko, the ancient theater… We’ll end on a high note with the sunset from the village of Plaka!
And if you’re more of a hiking enthusiast, you’ll find plenty of tours on the AllTrails website. A site we love: you can filter your searches by type of activity (walking, cycling…), difficulty, distance…
